      Facilities Engineer (Fire Protection Lead)

I am currently employed as a nuclear facilities engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton Washington. I have been with this group since 2003. The nuclear facilities engineering branch is responsible for providing the technical guidance required for upkeep and maintenance of permanent and portable nuclear support facilities in Washington and California. To be able to accomplish the job I am required knowledge and experience of several engineering disciplines.I have taken on the role of the lead engineer for fire protection systems. As a lead engineer I developed instructions for the design, installation operation, maintenance & testing of fire protection systems at the Naval Nuclear facilities under the cognizance of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. I have developed a thoruough understanding of the operation testing and maintenance of initiation devices (e.g. pull stations, smoke detectors, heat detectors) and notification appliances used in fire detection systems, operating principles of fire suppression systems (including normal valve lineups, system pressures, etc.), and periodic testing requirements for both detection and suppression systems. The completion of University of Maryland Fire Protection Engineering Master’s Program has provided me with an additional resource to utilize in my role as lead engineer for fire protection systems at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Nuclear Facilities.Secondary Duty Nuclear facilities trouble desk engineer for all nuclear repair facilities under Puget Sound Naval Shipyard cognizance. Support all recurring facilities maintenance and all emergent facilities issues. Work closely with maintenance and project management personnel to resolve emergent issue and overcome barriers to complete recurring maintenance obligations by specified due dates. Solicit feedback and input from project and production personnel to improve quality of instructions used to complete this work. Show less
