Our team investigated how to better integrate and marry urban planning and energy planning. The two remain largely separate in current regional or municipal electricity supply planning. We at the CUE believe that the two processes can be combined. After having analyzed various case studies and conducted interviews with key stakeholders (e.g. utilities, municipalities, etc.) and collaborating with QUEST Ontario, we are able produced a series of recommendations that will be forwarded to the IESO.We also explore how to improve the resilience of the urban electrical grid. A resilient grid is one that can prevent shocks or absorb them with as little damage as possible and restore power as quickly as possible. Weather and climate change related power outages account for approximately 90 % of all outages. We are working on creating new resilience indicators that can capture the performance of a LDC during and after a severe weather event. Our recommendations from both studies are currently being taken into considerations by municipalities, the IESO and higher levels of government. Show less
