    • Queensland Parliamentary Internship Program

      Jul 2013 - Nov 2013
      Intern

The parliamentary internship commits students to pursue a major research project for the Parliamentary Supervisor, an elected MLA. I was fortunate to be allocated to Dr Bruce Flegg Member for Moggill who had a keen interest in cyclist safety and connectivity, particularly due to recent cyclist fatalities and serious injuries which occurred in his electorate as well as in the greater Brisbane area.Using various data collection methods (including survey, observational methods), case study analysis and industry leader informal interviews, a research report was completed and submitted which provided an outline of leading practice in recognised cyclist-friendly countries as well as applicable recommendations that can be implemented across Brisbane so as to ensure continued protection for cyclists as well as drivers to improve driver and cyclist interactions. The report's recommendations, while concentrating on infrastructure, also highlighted several areas in regards to policy and legislation that could potentially succeed into shifting driver/cyclists attitudes towards a more harmonious interaction.
