Based on this, the main motivations behind the study of new non-orthogonal multicarrier waveforms is that the underlying design principles synchronism and orthogonality of the PHY layer of mobile radio systems constitute a major obstacle for the envisioned 5G service architecture. Hence, there is a clear motivation for an innovative and in part disruptive re-design of the PHY layer for next generation cellular systems. Show less
