  I started in this job as a radio operator. Working with a team of people to ensure the successful communication and co-ordination of rescues at sea, working with the Rescue Co-ordination Centre. We looked after approx. 50 million kilometres squared of ocean. After sometime I became a Acting Watch leader, looking after a team of people.

  I am the Operations Manager for the Northern Fire Communications Centre in Tamaki Makaurau, and this role involves, - Oversee the day-to-day running of the Communications Centre, managing general operational/technical issues that arise to ensure the effective and efficient operation of a 24-hour mission critical facility.- Ensure that response decisions meet the requirements of the Statements of Service Performance (SSP’s)- Contribute to the development of local and national policies/procedures for dealing with both emergency and non-emergency activities- Daily liaison with internal and external stakeholders to communicate information and resolve technical/operational issues as required - Build and sustain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in particular, other emergency service providers- Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic focus and direction of the Communications Centre, including the business planning process- Day-to-day management of staff to ensure adherence to legislative, procedural and service requirements/standards- Provide direction and leadership to staff that enables and supports the vision and direction of Fire and Emergency New Zealand and that facilitates ongoing change- Works with the Communication Centre Manager to build and foster a team culture within the Communication Centre environment that motivates and enables staff to achieve business objectives Show less
