      Research Intern

      I was taking part in project "Applications of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) to biomechanical in vitro tests", under supervision of prof. Luca Cristofolini. My job was to optimize biological specimen's preparation. It included upgrading process of creating dark background on biological tissue (vertebrae and intervertebral discs) and finding suitable parameteres of airbrush gun to apply speckle pattern. I was preparing every spine specimen (mostly porcine) by myself, taking under consideration all of project assumption. My final task was to write protocol for optimized preparation of the pattern. I was also responsible for operating on the software (Dantex Istra 4vc10) during mechanical tests and generating visualizations. Finally, this internship resulted in the following papers:- “Displacements and strains in multi-vertebra spine segments measured by means of digital image correlation” written in colaboration with Miguel Marco Esteban, Marco Palanca and Luca Cristofolini, which was submitted for the forthcoming yearly Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics (in Lyon, July 2016);- "The evaluation of strain on spine segments in a contactless way and full-field view" written in colaboration with Miguel Marco Esteban, Marco Palanca and Luca Cristofolini, which was submitted for the forthcoming ESB Italian National Chapter (in Naples, June 2016);- "In vitro evaluation of strain on a spine segment using non-contact measurement technique" written in colaboration with Miguel Marco Esteban, Marco Palanca and Luca Cristofolini, which was submitted for the forthcoming European Orthopaedic Research Society 24th Annual Meeting (in Bologna, September 2016).       I was taking part in project "Analysis and characterization of an UHMWPE cranial prosthesis manufactured by incremental sheet forming" under supervision of dra. Maria Luisa Garcia-Romeu de Luna. My job was to develop evaluation plan of already manufactured cranial prosthesis, including all standard requirements. Evaluation was divided to few parts: physicochemical, mechanical and biological. To summarize my work at UdG I created indication report to my project fellows to conduct this evaluation in future.
