  Topical ocular delivery of aciclovir amino-acid prodrus using iontophoresis

  Synthesis, characterization and biopharmaceutical evaluation of amino-acid aciclovir prodrugs for topical iontophoretic delivery to the eye.The aims of this study were:1. Synthesis of 2 ACV prodrugs (ACV-Ala and ACV-Ile).2. Purification and characterization of the synthesized compounds (1H-NMR, 13C NMR, LC-MS, HPLC-UV, prediction of Log D and pKa)3. Development and validation of robust UHPLC-MS/MS methods to quantify ACV and each prodrug simultaneously.4. Determine the stability of the prodrugs in contact with corneal and scleral tissues.5. Compare passive and iontophoretic transport and optimise iontophoretic conditions. Show less
