  The Medupi Power Station is the first new coal fired power station to be built in twenty years in South Africa and when fully commissioned will generate approximately 4,800 MW and be the 4th largest coal fired plant in the world. The scope of work for this project includes the civil works associated with the main power island and the ancillary structures. In total, 700 000 m3 of concrete, 600 000 m2 offormwork and 60 000 t of reinforcing steel will be used. Collectively, the joint venture amasses the majority of the civil industry capability andrepresents the majority of the intellectual property and experience on the building of power stations within the civil construction fraternity in South Africa.less Show less
