PROTEIN ANALYTICS & REGULATORY (2012-2016)• Used biotechnology tools such as the Minifors fermenter to express recombinant proteins, including highly hydrophobic membrane proteins in E. coli.• Purified recombinant proteins using AKTA FPLC, Bio-Rad Prep Cell, immunopurification, and other methodologies and techniques.• Characterized proteins using a range of techniques including protein and enzyme assays and digestibility studies.• Developed protocols and SOPs and GLP validated procedures for the quantitative analysis of proteins in plant tissues using the Protein Simple capillary electrophoresis system.• Introduced and implemented new assays for the quantification and characterization of proteins that have facilitated deregulation for two agronomics related products (one of them is not yet complete). • Designed LIMS database workflows to store data derived from the characterization of recombinant proteins. Collaborated with developers to implement, troubleshoot and improve the database.• Workshops include:- The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: Franklin Covey Co. Show less SCIENTIST ─ CROP PHYSIOLOGY & PHENOTYPING (2001-2012)• Designed, implemented and documented phenotypic screens for the study of crops and model plants in a team-oriented environment. Served as the chief technician for the LemnaTec plant phenotyping system. - Screens included Genome-Wide Association Mapping of maize inbreds and analysis of transgenic crops and model species. -Traits investigated included resistance to drought, cold, and oxidative stress and above and below ground biomass. • Performed statistical analysis of research data and communicated project updates in internal review meetings.• Established a new high-throughput plant phenotyping system for crops and model plants that greatly increased the number of phenotypes that were measured while decreasing labor requirements by over 50%.• Designed and validated a screen to test the resistance of recombinant soybean plants to fungal root pathogens.• Developed a pilot project proposal that became one of three finalists in the Research Director’s Innovation Challenge contest. • Introduced team building and new employee mentoring initiatives that enhanced the camaraderie and the culture of BASF Plant Science and decreased the assimilation time of new employees. -Founded and contributed to a New Employee Committee for more than 3 years. -Founded, staffed and chaired the Employee Newsletter Committee for over 7 years.• Workshops Include: - Introduction to TYPE in Organizations: Consulting Psychologists Press Inc - Critical Thinking and Project Management: Business Process Incorporated - Building a High Performance Team: Gigi Gardner Consulting LLC Show less
