  As an Apprentice to the Touchstone Theatre Company, I will be attending training sessions, classes, and rehearsals throughout the week. Our rehearsals are used to create organic productions for the theatre and to go on tour. Each apprentice will also be given the opportunity to create and perform in the Fresh Voices collection in February 2012. Along with growing as a performer, apprentices work intimately with Ensemble members, Technical Director, and Production Manager on designated education and community projects, and administrative tasks.   The Young Playwrights Project pairs accomplished playwrights—who are also gifted teaching artists and outstanding role models--with advanced Bay Area theatre students who are interested in dramatic writing.Over the course of two months, students learn the craft of dramatic writing. Plays from each class are selected for further development under the mentorship of the playwright-in-residence. The culmination of the young playwrights’ time and energy is a one-day event where professional actors and directors bring the new scripts to life onstage, working in the same way established playwrights do at an industry level. Readings of each play are presented that evening to an audience comprised of the playwrights' friends, families, and peers. Show less
