    • Digicel Group

      Nov 2007 - Apr 2017

As the Senior Roaming Engineer for Digicel Group’s Roaming Technical Team my main responsibility was to oversee the daily technical operations of the Roaming Technical Team. I lead and supervised three Roaming Engineers in the investigation and resolution of the international roaming related issues (voice, SMS and GSM, 3G & LTE data issues) for the Digicel markets using Digicel’s Miami and New York Roaming hubs. This required extensive communication via email, phone and instant messaging with roaming partners, customers, vendors and other teams with Digicel. Another major part of the role was to provide technical support and guidance to Digicel markets in matters that related to roaming and their international signalling traffic. I was also the Digicel contact for Mobileum (Roamware). a company which provided specialized roaming services and applications for Digicel. Additionally I was responsible for administering and maintain of the Solaris servers running, this involved coordinating and all maintenance, upgrades and new implementations for these servers.Achievements:During my time as a Senior Roaming Engineer I worked extensively with Fujitsu and Mobileum (Roamware) to upgrade and improve some of the Roaming Services provided by Digicel to their customers. I also assisted other Digicel Markets such as Curacao, Aruba, Suriname, Guyana, Haiti and British Virgin Islands to upgrade and streamline their international roaming signalling connections to other Digicel markets and to the Roaming Hubs in Miami and New York. Because the Roaming Technical Team was responsible for Digicel’s International LTE Roaming, I have had the privilege of overseeing the testing and provisioning of dozens of LTE roaming partners to Digicel’s DSC’s in Miami and New York. Additionally I frequently worked with Anam (Digicel’s SMS Firewall Vendor) to implement new SMPP connections to larger SMS hubs such as Syniverse. Sybase and BICs. Show less Working with Digicel Jamaica’s BSS I am responsible for administering and upgrading Jamaica’sRadio Access Network nodes. This involves performing regular routine maintenance and upgrades, provisioning and integrating new nodes into the network and investigating and resolving issues related to the RAN nodes. As part of the job I worked closely with the Radio Frequency Team, Transmission Team, other departments within Digicel and vendors on a daily basis. I was also responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues with Digicel’s BSC, RNCs and Media Gateways. In order to accomplish this is was often necessary for me to source and replace faulty hardware.Achievements:I have had the opportunity to be the Digicel Jamaica’s point of contact to oversee the installation and integration of Digicel Jamaica’s new Ericsson Evolution 8200 Radio Network Controller and two newEricsson Evolution 8200 Base Station Controllers.I have also migrated over 600 GSM and 3G RBS from older nodes to nodes with newer hardware and greater capacity. For these migration activitiesI wrote the Ericsson man-machine-language (mml) commands needed to perform the BSC migrations. I also wrote UNIX programs which have been used to simplify the execution and monitoring of the migration activities; i.e. activities which would take many days could be performed automatically in a few hours. Show less As a Switch Engineer working with the Roaming Team my main responsibility was to investigate and resolve International voice, data and SMS roaming issues involving all Digicel markets. This included international roamers who are roaming in Digicel networks Digicel customers roaming in other Digicel networks and internationally. This required extensive communication via email, phone and instant messaging with roaming partners, customers and other teams with Digicel.Another major part of the role was to provide technical support and guidance to Digicel markets in matters that related to roaming and their international signalling traffic. I also performed IREG testing (IR.24, IR.32, IR.60 and IR.35) for existing and perspective roaming partners. Other responsibilities involved provisioning and data-filling core networks nodes such asHLRs, MSCs and ITPs as needed so as to facilitate successful roaming.I was also responsible for administering and maintain UNIX servers running specialized roaming applications and services. Achievements:During my time with the roaming team I have had the privilege of working on a number of projects and the implementation of solutions which have helped to bolster and improved the efficiency of the Digicel networks and by so doing reduce operational costs of the business . Implemented the migration of Digicel FWI, Barbados, St Vincent, St Kitts, Grenada, Aruba andTrinidad and Tobago International roaming traffic to Digicel’s Cisco ITPs in Miami and New York.I was also responsible for configuring the voice circuits and IN triggering in Digicel Jamaica MSCs which allowed international roamers in Jamaica to use virtual home environment services e.g. dialling short-codes for Voicemail and Customer Care.
