  Special Education Teaching Assistant

  I facilitated physiotherapy and speech therapy programmes, intensive interaction methods, personal care routines, manual handling procedures and children’s access to hydrotherapy, as part of a classroom team for children with PMLD. As part of a different class team, my role was to support older pupils with ASD and a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs. I also led a school choir on a weekly basis, and during performances each term.

  I provided respite care for a young person with additional support needs, producing a care package which focussed on building independence, particularly in areas including cooking and public transport use, and enabling them to access facilities and events in the community.

  During my first year of the MSc, I worked as a music therapist in an inpatient service for adults with autism. I offered individual music therapy interventions, and co-facilitated a dance movement therapy and music therapy group with a member of the arts therapies team.

  Trainee Music Therapist - Child and Adolescent Mental Health

  During the second year of the MSc, I worked with young people in a secure inpatient setting, offering individual music therapy assessments and interventions. As the setting had no existing input from arts therapies, it was my responsibility to establish a music therapy service. I worked autonomously, introducing music therapy to the multidisciplinary team and providing feedback on the interventions. Through integration into the multidisciplinary team, I was able to assess the needs and risks for each individual, in order to offer person-centred music therapy sessions. Show less
