  While I was working at Fireman's Fund, I was contacted by Steve Zastrow, the Chief Underwriting Officer at ARA Insurance Services. I had worked with him at USF&G and again at Home Insurance. ARA Insurance was going through a transition having lost their carrier partner, Safeco Insurance. They were in a new relationship with Insurance Corporation of Hannover and I was brought in to help Steve manage that transition.During that time, I developed new rating algorithms for general liability and inland marine products that were territory specific. I rewrote our property coverage extension endorsement to update additional coverages and coverage extensions and to make it mesh with the ISO property coverage forms which were the foundation of our policies. In addition, I audited underwriting files and created underwriting forms that improved the consistency of the underwriting done in our office.ARA Insurance had a staff of underwriters, assistants, and service technicians that handle a nationwide book of business with accounts ranging from $5K to $1M in annual premium. Besides the special projects mention above, I was involved in rate level reviews, continuing product development, and book of business management.   Underwriting practice leader - package business

  I was involved in developing and distributing an insurance package (property and general liability) product offering to round out our auto liability, auto physical damage, and motor truck cargo product offering to the trucking industry and to provide a package market to those businesses ancillary to the trucking industry. I developed the property rating algorithms that reflected differences in construction, occupancy type, fire protection, regional differences in wind and hail exposures, etc. I also screened and selected loss control vendors and worked with Virtual MGA in developing a policy rating and processing system.
