      Studied at the Center for Marine Resources in South Caicos, Turks & Caicos Islands during the Fall 2022 semester. All fieldwork required scuba diving and/or snorkeling skills. Analyzed the effectiveness of local MPAs in protecting the economically important queen conch. Conducted linear transect surveys and analyzed the distribution and abundance of shallow-water seagrass and fish species. Studied the impacts of invasive lionfish on marine ecosystems. Spent the last month of the semester conducting research on the behavioral effects of white v.s. red light on the Caribbean reef octopus (Octopus briareus). Unlike white light which disturbs nocturnal marine life, red light may be outside of the spectral sensitivity range of octopuses. Show less
