      Professional staff nurse in an outpatient cardiac unit for patients receiving diagnostic and interventional heart catheterizations , pacemaker and/or defibrillator implants, Loop recorders, TEE, cardioversions and cryoablations, and most recently TAVR and Watchman work ups. Depending on procedure done, some of these patients are discharged the same day and some are admitted to the telemetry unit. Physical assessment, vital signs monitoring, medication administration via MAK, access care and monitoring (via femoral, radial, brachial, popliteal, or pedal access) Computerized documentation Powerchart for medication documentation. Use Epic to retrieve laboratory and testing results. IV start site(s) per protochol using 20G, 18G and 22G needles. Shave prep and antiseptic scrub to preprocedural sites. Population of patients varies from young adult to frail elderly. Collaboration with other nurses, midlevels, and physicians and manager is on ongoing process. Show less

The patient started to walk out of the hospital to drive himself home. I alerted security and we coaxed the patient to have breakfast and coffee to sober up before driving home. The patient was grateful for my compassion to him. He was an alcoholic and had been in an argument with his wife that morning.       Guardian Angel Award Timothy Grode Oct 2007 My father in law honored me for urging him to see the doctor for hematuria. With his strong family history, it wasn't just a UTI (like everyone wanted to believe). It was prostate cancer that was caught early. He had a prostatectomy but no chemotherapy was needed.
