      Site Engineer for a Piling Contractor during a yearlong placement whilst at University. The first two months of the placement spent tendering for works at head office. The remaining ten months spent on the same mixed use development where I later worked as a Construction Manager for Woolf Ltd. The works involved the installation of two large scale cofferdams and approximately three hundred load bearing piles. Responsible for setting out and surveying, record keeping, cost control and programme management, site health and safety, quality assurance procedures and checks, development of work method statements and consultation with the clients representative and design team.       Construction Manager

      Initially working as a Graduate Project Engineer on two mixed use developments (£65M total) in St Peter Port, Guernsey. Responsible for all setting out, surveying, monitoring, quality control and as built record information during the ground works, steel and concrete frame erection stage of the projects. Promoted to Construction Manager after 6 months and continuing on the same project for a further 2 years through to completion. Managing contractors working on the building envelopes including stone cladding, external rendering, cantilever balconies, all external windows, doors, curtain walling and copper roofing. Responsibilities also extended to cover contractors dealing with the regeneration of the area surrounding the buildings including; road resurfacing, hard and soft landscaping and large water-feature installation towards the end of the project. In managing the contracts duties included programme management, health and safety monitoring, processing monthly valuations, consultation with design team and local authorities, snagging, final inspections and handover.       Client-side Project Manager responsible for the full life-cycle management of projects including development of project brief, consultation with stakeholders, feasibility, engagement / management of consultants, planning approval, procurement, contractor management, final handover and implementation of maintenance regimes. Notable projects include:1. The Orangery Refurb Project The refurbishment of the Grade I listed Orangery Restaurant, one of Kew’s most iconic Georgian buildings. Complete refit out of the w/c facilities, kitchen upgrade including services, DDA works, window restoration, roof repairs and decoraion throughout. Responsible for the management and delivery of the entire project over a very tight winter close down period. Project value approximately £300k.2. 49 Kew Green Restoration Project The complete refurbishment of a Grade II listed, 6 bedroom property on Kew Green. Works included the installation of new kitchens, restoration of windows, roof repairs, restoration of external brickwork, new heating system and redecoration throughout. Responsible for initial engagement with stakeholders, brief writing, management of design, planning, procurement, H&S monitoring and contractor management through to handover. Project value approximately £350k4. Wakehurst Place Biomass Project The construction of a boiler house and installation of a 500Kw biomass boiler to supply 90% of the heating requirements for Wakehurst Place. The heat generated by the boiler is distributed across the site to existing district heating systems. Planning conditions dictated a boiler house in keeping with adjacent red brick, barrel vault roofed buildings. The scheme also includes fuel storage and a walking floor/auger feeding system. Responsible for production of business case, securing funding, design development from RIBA stages 1-4, planning negotiations and approval, tender preparation, procurement, cost planning and contract set up. Responsible for consultation with stakeholders, feasibility, management of consultants, planning approval, programming, contractor management, logistical planning and management, event management and PR engagement. Notable projects include:1. Kew the Music 2011 & 12Kew’s annual week long summer music festival with approximately eight thousand people in attendance each night.Reporting directly into the Senior Production Manager and responsible for the procurement of suppliers, programming setting out and installing the front of house areas including retail, crowd control systems, ticketing systems, emergency lighting, artists and crew accommodation and welfare facilities and ensuring DDA compliant access. 2. David Nash Exhibition 2012The installation of a high profile art exhibition across the gardens at Kew. Thirty exhibition pieces ranging from 500kg to 10 tonnes made from timber, bronze and iron. Working with the artist directly during a highly sensitive installation to a very tight time frame. Responsible for engagement and management of structural engineers and installation contractors, programming, logistics within the public gardens, stakeholder consultation, H&S monitoring, setting up a maintenance programme and handover to curator team.3. Kingdom of Plants 2011 - 2012A schedule of filming at Kew for a Sky 3D documentary presented by Sir David Attenborough. Responsible for the logistical coordination of filming across the Gardens using large filming rigs, cranes, cherry pickers and an entourage of film crew vans and lorries. Coordination with stakeholders across the Gardens and the management of their various stipulations and requirements, ensuring the protection of the Gardens landscape both in the planning and execution of filming shoots, the management of H&S during filming, supporting the Film crew and Kew’s PR team in an advisory capacity both in planning shoots and during filming. Responsible for the management of a construction management project team from appointment, throughout procurement and construction. Works include the production of project construction methodology, contract negotiation, monthly client reporting and engagement, change management, adjacent tenant management and liaison with the local authority. 1. Berkshire House, MaidenheadThe redevelopment of an eleven storey office block in the centre of Maidenhead. Demolition of the existing façade and roof, the addition of 4 new floors in steel frame, recladding, installation of external façade lighting and full fit out of 68 new high end apartments. Four existing retail units on the ground floor (including a bank and food outlet) remained in occupation throughout the project.       Designing, establishing and managing the first construction programme in the National Trust’s south east region. The role was to oversee the investment of at least £45m in new visitor infrastructure at 15 properties across the region over 3 years. Challenges of the role included not only the delivery of the project benefits on time and budget but the introduction of the idea of programme management, change management, programme benefits and making use of the opportunities afforded by the programme approach. This role included the direct line management of 5 programme team members and the indirect line management of programme consultant partners appointed to deliver programme and project functions. Within the first 6 months in post I successfully secured the previously unallocated funding necessary to take all projects through feasibility, established the Programme board and defined the roles within it, procured a project management consultant and cost management consultant partners to provide project and programme level delivery resources whilst establishing clearly defined roles for existing internal partners working on projects within the programme. Show less Whilst continuing to manage LSE REI projects in 2018 I also took on the role of lead for the programme in the south of England, reporting to the programme director. This role involved the line management of four project managers and two assistant project managers across the East of England and the South West. I was a member of the programme leadership team and responsibly for the management of risks, benefits and change management at a programme level as well as for the projects within my care. Significant effort was required to build and maintain strong and effective business relationships with stakeholders over a wide geographical area in order to establish a robust pipeline of projects to meet programme targets, Across 2018 I was ultimately responsible for the delivery of projects worth approximately £4.3M and securing a further pipeline of projects worth approximately £5M.
