    • Royal Fleet Auxiliary

      Oct 2005 - Jun 2017

I have been promoted well in advance of my peers since joining Britania Royal Navy College in 2005, this management level position has seen me working in several locations. Primarily as an Operations Officer onboard ships, managing the ships program, leading the Bridge team, training junior officers and rating, leasing with Naval, Governmental and foreign agencies and providing warfare, operational and strategic advice to command. This role involves agile and efficient decision making, gathering and analysing evidence, leading and inspiring a team of varied rank, knowledge and employment terms (having been in charge of personnel ranging from Royal Navy and British Army to Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Civil servants). As First Officer I served a stint as Chief Mate on a cargo ship (ammunition). As well as serving at sea i have undertaken two shore side jobs while a First officer. Firstly was my attachment to the staff of 2 Star Admiral commanding the UK Maritime Force for the duration that it stoop up as the duty NATO Maritime Reaction Force lead. This involved working in the operational Logistics Cell of the admirals staff aster lead in co-ordinating the resupply and transfer of fuel, ammunition, personnel and stores at sea between task force units. During a major NATO deployment this involved co-ordinating these tasks for a force of over 50 ships with additional land air and Special Forces assets in support. In this role I developed skills in efficient and clear communication, prioritising of tasks and identifying the maximum return i could get from my team utilising their skills, knowledge and experience. The second shore role that I undertook was that of Maritime Sustainment Program Officer. This was primarily concerned with the brining into service of new ships but also saw my involvement in many other functions of Navy Command. Including managing the disposal of a ship, producing reports and representing the RFA at seminars and meetings. Show less As Second Officer I had two primary roles, those of Point Defence Officer (Gunnery Officer) and that of Navigation Officer. In this role my leadership skills were really developed and as Point Defence Officer i was often responsible for a team of up to 30 gunners mixed between Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Royal Navy and Royal Marines and their associated weapon systems. This serious role required maturity, professionalism and knowledge and I was often challenged by situations each of which I overcame and learned from. As Navigation Officer I lead the bridge team planned the ships route ensured navigational safely and was in charge of over seeing the training of Junior Officers and Cadets. As part of this role i undertook and passed the Royal Navy's Fleet Navigation Officers course an intense course focusing on navigation in dangerous waters without the aid of electronic navigation aids. As Navigator i have taken ships all around the world and even proposed, organised and oversaw a training program onboard done of our ships for the Coast Guard of an Indian Ocean Nation for whichI received much praise. As a second Officer i served onboard cargo ships, ammunition ships, oil tankers and dynamic positing ships. Show less As Officer of the Watch I was in sole charge of the ships navigation bridge for 8 hours a day while the ship was at sea, ensuring safety both externally and internally and traveling across the globe from the Arabian Gulf during the Iraq War to the far South Atlantic. IN this role i learned to interact with my team get them onside and get them motivated and to develop an instinct for when i could deal will a problem or when i needed to call in for assistance. I exceed in this role receiving many excellent performance reviews that lead to my early promotion to Second Officer. In this time i served onboard oil tankers and passenger ships. Show less
