      Behavioral Health Technician

Obtained a certification as a Registered Behavior Technician in order to provide children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Therapy. Using ABA Therapy, I helped children to gain independence in skills such as gross motor, communication, whether verbal, sign language, or use of a speech device, as well as social independence. Throughout each session, I kept track of any maladaptive behaviors such as aggression, self-injurious behavior, elopement, etc., while also working closely with our team of speech and occupational therapists. I worked under the supervision of my client's BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst), who helped to organize their treatment plan and to note any progress being made, or any other concern regarding the child. Jan 2021 - May 2021
      Student Intern

For this internship position, I am working directly with families as a childcare resource and referral advocate. COAD serves thirty-one counties in Appalachian Ohio, including many of the most impoverished counties throughout the Midwest region. Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of my interactions with families, childcare providers, state legislatures, and other colleagues have been virtual. I have participated in virtual workshops including a panel hosted by Groundwork Ohio to discuss current issues regarding early childhood education, as well as an Ohio Healthy workshop to promote the implementation of healthier meals throughout childcare centers. Although COAD is mainly child-and-family focused, they offer a Senior Companion Program, as well as a Foster Grandparent program, both of which I have been able to become involved with. Show less
