Geometric data was collected from the physical test piece, in this case a car wing mirror, using a 'Faro' laser scanner. The component's aerodynamic performance was then analysed using Star CCM+. Using the extrapolation tools available, the model was reverse engineered and the geometry altered to reduce the aerodynamic drag. A 3D printer was used to create a model of the improved test pieces and both were mounted within a Göttingen wind tunnel.
