  In my position as Chief Wastewater Operator, I was in charge of making sure all of the water quality test were collected and submitted for testing. I would have to go to each station in the wastewater plant and collect samples for the wastewater. Take them back to the laboratory on site and prepare the samples using complex laboratory measurement equipment. Once the samples were prepared I would then have to transport them to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for testing. I was also in charge of preforming all of the preventive maintenance on all of the wastewater equipment. I would have to take apart moderately complex electronically controlled equipment and repair if need be. I developed and put in place a schedule for the preventive maintenance on all equipment under my care. Along with maintaining the equipment I was also in charge of keeping the grounds of the wastewater plant and all of the pumping stations clean and mowed. Whenever grease would build up in the pumping stations I would have to take a chemical to the station and get the grease broken up so it could be pumped to the plant. When the drying beds for the solid waste would get full, I would have to use a front end loader, or skid-steer to load the solid waste in to a dump truck to be taken to the city dump to be disposed of. I would have to change out the 500-pound chlorine and Sulfur Dioxide cylinders when they would run out. To maintain my class “C’ certification, I would have to attend a four hour continuing education class once a year and submit paperwork to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Show less
