      Network Technician

While I've been at Santa Rosa Junior College since 2002 performing other Network Technician duties, I've grown my skills to include web development. I started out as simply being responsible for the the Information Technology web site, but over the years have since designed and written many custom database-driven web applications in PHP, MySQL, Javascript and jQuery to enhance the website and customer experience.Recently, I've been working with Drupal and the Zurb Foundation mobile-responsive framework to help redesign the entire Santa Rosa Junior College web site including development of custom Drupal modules. Examples of my past work include:Equipment request form with approval routing capabilities, an equipment check-out system for devices and services, and a cloud email migration database that communicates to the user the status of their migration each step of the way.I've also written many custom web-based and database-driven CMS to manage the district instructional computer labs, a support knowledge base, news aggregator, blog, and a web tool enabling the Public Relations office to automate some of their workflows. Other projects include a grant proposal site with approval routing capabilities, and a site to feature speaker profiles at Santa Rosa Junior College. One of my largest projects has been an end-to-end inventory control system, complete with a mobile-responsive and geolocation enabled web app to help manage, enter, and update asset information quickly and efficiently. • Apple

      Jun 2004 - Jan 2005
      Mac Genius

Apple contacted and recruited me to become one of their four Mac Geniuses in their first Apple store in the North Bay region. At the time, I was working at Santa Rosa Junior College as the primary Apple repair technician, so I already had deep knowledge of Apple hardware repair, software troubleshooting and great customer support. As a Mac Genius, I helped customers troubleshoot, order parts, and repair Mac computers and iPod's.

    • Riverside International Wine Competition

      Jan 2007 - Jul 2015
      Web Developer

When I started at the Riverside International Wine Competition, they were managing their entire competition using Excel. Entries got lost or duplicated, scores were not able to be entered quickly or correctly, and there was no sharing of the data of any kind. Results took a week or more to make it to the web.I decided to change all of this. I started by designing a custom relational database that could be used year-over-year to collect contact information from each winery and also allow wineries to enter their wines online. I also created an easy way for multiple volunteers to quickly enter scores, get questions answered easily with custom database queries, and finally, to get the results online immediately after the competition's end.Over the years, I've designed custom queries to help determine the winners of special awards, print dynamic PDF certificates, and even provide the administrative staff with easy ways to contact wineries and sort wines for correct placement in the competition. One of the other major changes I made for them was the switch away from a static website to a more dynamic CMS. I started with a simple, open-source CMS and then moved them into Wordpress, which currently houses a custom front-end entry system for wineries. Soon, I plan on switching them to Drupal with a custom module for the entry process. This plan will also bring more functionality to the wineries to more easily enter their wines.http://www.riversidewinecompetition.com Show less

    • Nomi Fabrics Inc

      Sept 2014 - Jul 2015
      Web Developer

Nomi Fabrics was looking to add many new features to their website and after some investigation, I determined that the code they were using didn't follow DRY principles. Additionally, some of the functionality would have been tough to retrofit onto their existing website.I came up with a plan to get them up and running relatively quickly on SquareSpace. By utilizing one of SquareSpace's initial themes, I modified the CSS and added many custom JavaScripts to enhance the customer experience. Some examples are an image zoom feature, dynamic drop-down menus, and navigation features. Show less

      Freelance Web Developer

As part of a team, helped to develop many websites for different clients - most sites were developed in Drupal, some in WordPress and others were straight HTML/CSS. Most sites required CSS and JavaScript work and some sites required some custom Drupal module development. • Jackson Family Enterprises

      Jul 2015 - Jun 2022

For most of my time at Jackson Family Wines, I have been a lead worker introducing new technologies to the team and managing large projects with cross-functional groups. Currently, I am helping to lead a project to create a large custom component-based framework system that will allow us to build sites faster. The collaboration between the web team, creative, marketing, and digital communications departments is working very well and we plan to start launching sites with the new framework soon.I’ve also built many Drupal 8 marketing eCommerce websites from the ground up via designs originating from our creative department. I also researched best practices for multivariate and A/B testing on our sites and successfully completed a multivariate study on one of our more prominent websites with great success. Additionally, I have planned and performed many migrations of Drupal 7 to 8 and we are now starting to work with Drupal 9 as well. Show less During my time with Jackson, I’ve built numerous Drupal 7 and Drupal 8 marketing eCommerce websites from the ground up via designs originating from our creative department. While I’m building the front end, I’m also focusing on configuring the back-end with content editors in mind - I want to make sure its easy as possible to update the sites once we hand them off to stakeholders. I also create video training materials for maintaining the sites.Along with the team, I help maintain the sites with added features and major updates over time. One of my larger projects in 2017 and 2018 was building Drupal 7 and Drupal 8 custom upstreams and install profiles for use with the Pantheon custom upstream architecture. This allows us to maintain a standard base image and more easily stay on top of security updates. These regular security updates are handled via custom scripts which I’ve written that update the sites, run visual regression testing, and perform other tasks before deployment.I’ve also created several custom modules for Drupal 7 and Drupal 8. These modules range from smaller site-specific modules to larger modules that are deployed across many of our sites. These enterprise-level modules aid in eCommerce functions, JSON data imports, site notifications, and centrally managed documentation. Recently, I’ve been researching how to use Google’s Optimize platform to perform multivariate and A/B testing. Show less
