      Volunteer English teacher for the US Peace Corps, in Lipnica Wielka, 3hrs south of Krakow. My initial contract was for a 6 week summer school, but I was employed by the local high school following this successful trial. Enjoyed a productive gap year in Lipnica and later travelled from Thailand to Western Europe working in pubs and bars. I settled in the Loire Valley, near Tours in France, where I spent a summer as a Nanny / Housekeeper to an Anglo-French family before returning to the UK.

Void management, allocations (within a Common Housing Register partnership), dealing with anti-social behaviour, estate management, tenant participation were all part of this role. I also undertook part-time postgraduate study at Cardiff University alongside this role. Housing Administrator providing administrative support to a team of Housing Officers, the Housing Manager and the Director of Housing Services. This role firmly embedded Housing as my preferred career choice.

      A policy role in Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC's Housing Strategy Team. My role involved negotiating with private developers with a view to increasing the supply of affordable housing (both for social rent and low cost home ownership) within the borough and also to manage the local authority's low cost home ownership programme, Homestep. During my time here, I also contributed to the local housing strategy for 2007-2012, entitled "Housing Matters", and assisted with the transition of local authority housing stock to RCT Homes.       In this role I manage and oversee all sheltered and supported (static and floating) housing projects in the South Wales region for Newydd, covering the Vale of Glamorgan, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Neath Port Talbot, Powys and Cardiff. I am the designated senior officer negotiating and monitoring management agreements with Newydd's supported housing partner organisations. I strive to maintain positive links with Supporting People teams in various local authority areas. I also manage a team of Independent Living Officers, who work with tenants aged 55+, to deliver excellent tailored and intensive housing management services.In May 2015 Newydd rebranded its sheltered housing services as the Independent Living Service.
