      2004 - 2006
City & Guilds Certificate Garden Design Pass (Ungraded Qualification)

The course delivered far exceeded the required standard for the purposes of the assessment, the knowledge of design & landscape architecture the tutor provided has since been invaluable & inspired me to pursue this as a career goal.Art skills, from basic colour theory through to techniacal draughtmanship, were developed alongside more dicipline specific theories of aethetics and construction requirements. All round a great grounding in the art & science of designing external spaces.

    • Circle Garden Services

      Mar 2008 - Oct 2008
      Landscape Assistant

My first 'professional' experience in the horticulture industry (I had been maintaining & constructing gardens on an informal basis since my early teens). This seasonal role involved provding both maintenance and construction services to clients with a varied range of propeties. Machinery used included both pedestrian and ride-on mowers, most hand tools (powered & otherwise). When required, I served in a supervisory capacity, being the more experienced/knowledgable horticulturist on staff. I gained good understanding of what running this type of service requires and much valuable experience besides. I left in the Autumn to pursue further acadfemic qualifications in Leeds. Show less

    • Victoria Farm Garden Centre

      Mar 2009 - Aug 2009
      Nursery Assistant

A seeasonal position taken, in part, for the vocational aspects of my foundation degree course.Useful in broadening my plant knowledge and affording me the opportunity to gain experience of a different aspect of the horticulture industry, particularly with a view to both the heavily customer focused nature of the retail business and the labour intensive nature of wholsale plant production.

    • Sylvan Garden Services

      Feb 2010 - Feb 2012
      Head Gardener

Begun as a part-time venture to serve the needs of my education & parenting commitments, I served clients in the local area, meeting their needs for both regular garden maintenance and hard & soft garden landscaping.Whilst allowing me to support myself and begin growing the business, this venture also provided me with the invaluable experience of putting into practice much of what I was learning whilst at college. I was able to meet the goals I set out to achieve in the first two years of the company's short life.Sadly, a change in my personal circumstances meant I was no longer able to continue building the company into the viable full-time concern I would have wished it to be. So, with only practical considerations in mind, I was forced to cease trading to pursue other career options Show less

    • Coast & Country Housing Ltd.

      Mar 2012 - Nov 2012
      Estate Team Operative

This position providied me with financial support & what I hoped would be the opportunity to begin progressing my career. Unfortunately, the latter was not the case, so, with little in the way of opportunities in the local region (where I had been keen to stay due to personal reasons), I looked further afield in the hope of finding a position closer to both my skill & experience levels and with greater prospect of future career & personal development.

    • Russ Hill Farm

      Aug 2013 - Jan 2020
      Head Gardener

As Head Gardener on a distinctive 15 acre estate, with gardens laid out in an architectural style, and including influences from Japan, Italy and Australasia, I had plenty of challenges and opportunities to put my skills and enthusiasm to good use. Every aspect of maintaining and expanding the landscaped grounds fell within my remit, as did purchasing and budget management, contractor liaison and supervision of labourers, temporary staff and apprentices.
