      Current position is Ex-Chief / FF. Positions held in the department: Secretary, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, Asst. Chief & Chief of DepartmentResponding to a variety of emergencies such as fires, accidents, haz-mat, distress calls, water & ice rescues and alarms. Training both in house and through academies and other departments hosting classes. All training is a large variety as well, consisting of hands on and class room. DUTIES AS CHIEF OF THE DEPARTMENT:The Fire Chief maintains the management and discipline of the fire department designed to provide fire protection for persons and property; does other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of methods of fighting various types of fires.Knowledge of the use of firefighting equipment and apparatus.Knowledge of the location of schools, large buildings, streets, fire and life hazards in the municipality. Ability to analyze and interpret laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, standards, and procedures, and to apply them to specific situations and cases.Ability to make and balance a yearly budget for operations, equipment, training, maintenance and emergency allocation for the department Ability to supervise the maintenance and repair of fire department equipment. Ability to note and initiate action and to obtain new/improved equipment, materials, and supplies. Ability to remain calm/decisive/alert in emergency situations. Ability to supervise and command the efficient performance of firefighters and the use of equipment and apparatus at any rescue, fire or other emergency scene.       Full Time Career DepartmentI am currently a full time career firefighter here; responding to active alarms, motor vehicle accidents, rescue calls (such as confined space, high angle, water and ice), HazMat, public service, medical calls and fires, protecting life and property; also participate in fire inspections, fire prevention and training; and to maintain the fire station and firefighting equipment.Responsibilities:Firefighters carry out a diverse range of tasks, some you'll do every day while others are less frequent. They may include the following:---responding immediately and safely to emergency calls and requests for assistance;---attending emergency incidents including fires, road accidents, floods, terrorist incidents, spillages of dangerous substances, and rail and possible air crashes;---rescuing trapped people and animals;---minimizing distress and suffering, including giving first aid before ambulance crews arrive;---safeguarding your own and other people's personal safety at all times;---cleaning up and checking the site after dealing with an incident;---taking time to become familiar with local streets, roads and buildings so you can respond to emergency calls with speed and efficiency;---inspecting and maintaining the appliance (fire engine) and its equipment and reporting any deficiencies or maintenance issues to the on duty officer of the crew;---undertaking drills and physical training and taking part in training on techniques, use of equipment and related matters;---educating and informing the public to promote fire safety by giving talks in schools and to local organisations, as well as home visits to offer advice, etc;---maintaining links with the local community.       The major responsibility of the Park Ranger is community policing through the actions of increasing safety, provide information/assistance to the park users and help prevent non productive park usage. The objective of the Park Ranger is to protect our community's investments in our parks, monitor and direct use of parks, deter vandalism, and help enforce township ordinances and laws within the parks.The Park Ranger does not take the place of the police, but will assist in the safety and security of the parks. During big events the Park Ranger will also provide traffic control and direction for all patrons in attendance.       Resolution Middlesex County Board of Freeholders Oct 2001 This was received from the Middlesex County government for responding as a Rescue Company with East Brunswick Fire District # 1 to New York City and operating at the World Trade Center site of the terrorist attacks on September 11,2001.
    • Awarded to Steven Booke
      Certificate of Appreciation Township of Woodbridge and Shell Oil Products Jun 1996 This was received for responding to the Shell Oil Refinery in Woodbridge for a tank holding over (3) three million gallons of product on fire. Assisted along with other fire departments in containment and eventually extinguishment of the fire.
    • Awarded to Steven Booke
      Meritorious Service Monroe Twp. Fire District #3 Awarded for a severe motor vehicle accident, in which one of the victims was heavily entrapped and the responding on duty crew ( including myself) worked to extricate the victim from their vehicle. Once freed, the victim was then flown by NJSP helicopter to a trauma center. Efforts of the crew did help in preventing the amputation of the victim's leg as well as saving their life.

      WTC citation award East Brunswick Fire District #1 WTC service citation award issued from East Brunswick Fire District #1 to the crew who responded on R-704 as mutual aid to New York City on the morning of September 11,2001. The crew and the rescue truck responded to various points in New York City before responding to the WTC site and operating there for the remainder of our mutual aid assignment.
