  • Experience

    • Voa radio museum

      Mar 2015 - Dec 2017
      Student teacher

I teach and explain to kids and adults who come into the museum about electromagnetism, its role in discovering radio, and the scientific mechanisms behind radios. For two years, I worked at Lakota Lead's Pi Day for children at the VOA Radio Station booth.

      Nov 2017 - Apr 2018
Biomedical research and mentorship program (ramp) student

I worked under a 3rd Year Graduate Student in the Wells Lab on a project analyzing RNA sequencing and protein expression in stem cell grown tissues called organoids. I examined gastric, intestinal, and colonic tissues and analyzed them using qPCR and immunohistochemistry. Ultimately, I was able to learn more about these novel model systems and create a poster and PowerPoint presentation.

      Jun 2018 - Aug 2018
Summer undergraduate research fellowship (surf) student

I work with a Post-Doctoral Student in the Brugmann Lab, examining the role of primary cilia in neural crest cell (NCCs) migration in early development and how that affects craniofacial malformations. Specifically, we are examining one gene, C2CD3, which is expressed in the base axoneme of the primary cilia. Using a mouse line in which this gene has been floxed to be conditionally deleted in only NCCs, we examine cartilage and bone growth throughout various embryonic stages. Techniques I will be using include immunohistochemistry, general mouse work and dissection, paraffin embedding and sectioning, and various stains. Show less

    • White group

      Jan 2019 - Sept 2020
      Undergraduate student chemistry researcher

I work in the White Group in the University of Cincinnati Chemistry Department. My first project was for a study tour exchange program; I researched E-AB (Electrochemical Aptamer Based) Sensors with ATP as my target molecule. Our goal was to create a calibration free sensor. I did basic activities such as electrode cleaning, aptamer binding, square wave voltammetry, intermittent pulse aptamerometry, titrations, and use with MatLab. I presented this project at the University of Bordeaux, France at an international chemistry symposium. My current project focuses on creating an E-AB sensor for a series of toxins produced by cyanobacteria found in freshwater called Microcystins, the overall goal being able to engineer a point-of-use water monitoring system. • Deep lab

      Aug 2019 - Apr 2020
      Student researcher

Researched the use of cannabis on the cardiovascular system as well as sudden cardiac death in a guinea pig model with a working heart apparatus experiment. Analyzed pressure-volume dynamics and electrocardiograms of guinea pigs under healthy and cardiac stress conditions. Analyzed sodium and calcium flow within cardiomyocytes using whole cell patch clamp techniques. Performed cell isolation, heart isolation, and aortic clamping surgeries on guinea pigs under healthy and cardiac stress conditions. Show less
