As a research chemist for the Virginia Military Institute, my primary responsibility was to develop and conduct lab procedures in order to synthesize pharmaceutical molecules for later research into their effectiveness in treating malaria. Additionally, I operated analytical instruments and interpreted the data for molecule structure, product yield, and product purity. Based on the results I would advise my supervisor on courses of action for developing follow-on experiments. During my employment, I successfully synthesized over 30 new molecules, all of which were sent to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for further testing against malaria. Show less
