Experience

Khbo school of higher education
Jul 2010 - Sept 2010Administrative assistantAs an administrative assistant, I was responsible for welcoming potential students, enlightening them on the course of interest to them, informing them about any open days or further sources of information, and, in most cases, enrolling them for a specific course. This job involved working with the polytechnic's student database and responding to the computer related queries of new students concerning their pre-enrolment.

Depauw international, language camps
Aug 2014 - Aug 2014English language teacherI taught French- and Dutch- speaking 14- to 16-year-olds English in as playful and engaging a way as possible, to encourage a contrast with being at school. I created a coursebook and had to decide on the programme of the lessons myself. I was allowed a great freedom and thus was able to modify my lessons according to the pupils' taste and level. Aside from teaching my pupils the English language, I tried to make them acquainted with British culture and literature and guided them on a series of excursions to cities and outdoor spaces. This volunteer job involved a high degree of responsibility, as I was not only meant to teach but also to care for my group of 12 pupils. Excellent verbal and written communication skills were vital to the success of the classes and the excursions. Show less

Torture museum "de oude steen"
Sept 2015 - Sept 2015Museum assistantAs an employee at the Torture Museum in Bruges I was in charge of customer care, which included ticket sales, welcoming the visitors and providing them with directions and information about the reproductions of paintings by the Flemish Primitives. I was also responsible for responding to queries by visitors, replying to phone calls, registering bookings for private tours and group visits, and ensuring the security of the exhibits. Being the only employee in the museum, I had to be proactive and highly capable of multitasking. Also, I had to respond adequately to situations in which the facilities broke down or, on another occasion, when a visitor became unwell. I was expected to be fluent in Dutch, French, and English, and needed to have a passive knowledge of German in order to engage with the visitors. My duties equally included closing up the museum, which involved balancing the cash register, checking on the exhibits and dealing with some of the exhibits' technical requirements. Show less

The hepworth wakefield
Nov 2015 - Mar 2016Visitor experience volunteerAt The Hepworth Wakefield, my volunteer role involved providing a positive visitor experience and supplementing the visitor services team. I was expected to respond confidently in assisting the public during an emergency situation and to help stewarding events at the gallery supporting its public programme. I had to meet and greet visitors and give advice and directions when appropriate. Ensuring the safety of the artworks was a vital part of my role. I believe I was achieving to make visitors feel very welcome and I think my profound enthusiasm for the artworks added to their museum experience. Show less

The reader organisation
Feb 2016 - Jun 2016Reading resources internAs a Reading Resources intern, I was responsible for the maintenance and continuous updating of the organisation’s reading resources database. My tasks ranged from cataloguing reading resources to growing the resource – by adding to the short stories and poems folders and by developing a novella folder, which included summaries and suggested extracts for the individual novellas. Aside from creating reading resources database induction sheets for all staff, I started out developing a system relying on metadata as a means to facilitate users’ search for specific resources within the database and enhance their overall experience of this virtual library. I equally engaged in the proofreading of material from the organisation’s latest anthology, before adding it to the database. As a means to make the reading resources team’s work more visible and aiming to inspire quality in the discovery of new poems, I supplied remarkable poems, which did not yet feature in the poetry library and may consequently be unknown to staff, to the organisation’s weekly updates. I was responsible for a project in which I managed volunteers in the process of moving books from the organisation’s different store rooms to one centralised location -this to allow The Reader’s staff better access to the resources. In March, I assisted with the coordination of a World Book Night project which involved providing content for an external online platform and has been a significant PR opportunity for The Reader. The project concerned the creation of a bedtime story finder which would allow carers to find the perfect bedtime story to read to (their) children. This project required me to liaise with many potential bedtime story blurb writers and convince them to participate in the project. Together with an enthusiastic team of people, I partook in the organisation and overseeing of this project and we were all delighted with the result! Show less
