I continued working at the company until 2016.Mine Development and Closure Planning - Project manager and key engineer for numerous mine closure plans developed in accordance with Ontario Regulation 240/00. These closure plans typically involve conceptual design of remediation strategies for waste rock dumps, tailings areas and other facilities, estimation of closure costs, assessment of current and future groundwater and surface water quality, and development of monitoring, and care and maintenance programs. Metal Leaching and Acid Rock Drainage (ML/ARD) – Conducted numerous ML/ARD assessments and reviews for mine sites across Canada and abroad. The assessments typically included a field evaluation of ML/ARD including waste rock and water sampling programs, design of laboratory analytical programs, interpretation of field and laboratory results, interpretation of geology and mining plans with respect to the potential for ML/ARD, assistance with geochemical modelling inputs, and recommendations regarding waste rock management and monitoring programs. Environmental due diligence or peer reviews for: porphyry copper project, Chile; coal property, BC; gold mine and iron ore deposit, Brazil; nickel-copper mine, Ontario; PGM and copper project, Ontario; Yellowknife Gold Project, NWT; Meadowbank Gold Project, Nunavut; Cantung Mine, NWT; Raglan Nickel Mine, Quebec; assistance with other reviews.Environmental Assessment – Assisted with a screening report under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) for historical uranium tailings properties in the Elliot Lake area, Ontario. Assisted with EAs for other Elliot Lake area uranium mines. Assisted with many aspects of the environmental impact assessment of proposed landfill sites in the Toronto area for the Interim Waste Authority (IWA).   Mr. Martin has over 30 years of industry, government, and environmental consulting experience across Canada and internationally, primarily with respect to: mine development, operations, and closure, including assessment and selection of mine closure strategies, development of, and updates to, mine closure plans, and assessment and management of Metal Leaching / Acid Rock Drainage from waste rock and tailings. Jeff’s experience also includes: numerous environmental due diligence and peer review assignments for mining projects; hydrogeological assessments; participation in risk assessments, environmental impact assessments and pathways analyses; and permitting of mining and recycling facilities. As a geological engineer Jeff played a major role in the discovery of the Troilus Gold Mine, northern Quebec.Recent experience includes: preparation of updates to 20 closure plans for Ontario nickel-copper mines and related mills and smelters; an ongoing role as an independent environmental engineer for the development of a copper project in Chile; due diligence reviews of mine projects in Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, the Yukon, and South Dakota; and coordination and preparation of a Remedial Action Plan for land and water contaminated by over 100 years of coal mining and processing, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
