  Both these positions involved managing an existing book of insurance business and then looking for opportunities to grow within the GCU framework - not easy at times considering such factors as drought ( particularly in Western QLD ) and direct competitors. The Longreach position was based purely around Rural farming risks from Mt Isa to Longreach to the coast of Townsville so a wide are was travelled. After 3 successful years in Longreach I was transferred to a similar position in Townsville where the position involved me working with a panel of local Townsville Brokers and other intermediaries all the way down to Mackay. Again growth targets were met and maintained and 12 months later CGU won the Canegrowers account from WFI which led me to head up the team at Mackay looking after the Canegrowers account along with a panel of local Brokers. The product learning was intense and after completing Financial Planning subjects DFP 1 -4 I was on my way. It was a strong learning curve working in this space dealing with Life Insurance, Superannuation and Financial Planning clients particularly clients expectations of market forces versus growth expectations.   This role was taken on my myself as my General insurance book started to grow and take over the Financial Planning side of my work. It was decided with all the current legislation in place that I would need to concentrate on one sector only and in the end the General Insurance sector was growing well and we decided to sell off the financial planning arm. I then spent the next 4 years concentrating on steadily growing a new business book from contacts within the Mackay area that I had already.

  During a quiet period as a self employed Insurance agent I was approached by an Insurance Broker to set up an office arm for them in Mackay. I agreed and a Broking career was then underway doing exactly what I had previously been doing as an agent / adviser. Meeting prospective new clients and quoting on new accounts, assisting with Claims queries, Premium funding and payment follow ups. Steady growth was achieved during this period.

  Currently this position involves growing a book of business within the SME and Rural markets here in North Queensland. Steady growth has been attained over the last 5 years even when considering the current tough economic market within our many sectors here in Nth Qld. Mining and Heavy Motor plays an integral part in our markets and they are particularly struggling within the economic and political frameworks here in Queensland. Many referrals however are coming from our existing client base which provides a steady flow of ongoing new business to the book. Daily work includes quoting New Business ( SME, Rural, Retail ), Claims queries, marketing of renewal accounts, policy and premium discussions with insured's, negotiating with insurers for best terms, Premium Funding and premium collection.
