  The Assa North field situated some 70km northwest of Port Harcourt is located in SPDC’s OML 21 with some of its reservoirs in communication with SEPLAT OML 53 reservoirs where it is called Ohaji South. Assa North-Ohaji South is a unitized asset by DPR regulations because of its communicating reservoirs. A Preliminary Unitization Agreement (PUA) of 50:50 between SPDC JV and Chevron JV was signed hence SPDC and SEPLAT (who bought OML 53 over from Chevron) JVs will equally share the inventory production for processing in separate plants. The Assa North-Ohaji South Unit Partners are currently engaged in efforts to develop hydrocarbon resources in Oil Mining Licence (OML) 21 and 53 reservoirs for supply of processed gas and condensate to several customers in the domestic gas market. The Upstream facilities consisting of Wells, manifolds and flowlines is jointly owned and funded by SPDC and SEPLAT JVs.The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Ltd. is designated as Operator for the upstream facilities by a Unitization and Unit Operating Agreement (UUOA) signed in 2013, to develop the estimated 4.3 Tcf of gas and 197 MMstb of condensate from the fields. The primary (dew-pointed) gas destination for SPDC is the domestic gas export market via the OB3 East-West interconnecting pipeline whilst a secondary evacuation route for the dehydrated gas is to NLNG via an Obite – Assa multiphase pipeline. The primary destination for condensate is a proposed refinery to be built adjacent the SPDC Gas Plant. A tie-in to the existing Egbema-Assa line will provide a secondary evacuation route for the condensate through the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) to Bonny Oil Gas Terminal. A 3rd evacuation route is planned for the condensate through spiking the liquid into dehydrated gas.
