    • Anchor Restaurant

      Jun 2009 - Aug 2009
      Project Manager

Anchor Restaurant was looking to expand its services to include a take-away option for customers who wanted to enjoy their delicious meals at home. The restaurant owner knew that this new venture would require careful planning and execution to ensure its success. This was at a time before smartphones and ordering applications. Therefore, the project required out of the box thinking. My primary role was to develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure that the project is completed successfully within the agreed-upon budget, scope and timeframe.I coordinated the cross-functional teams, including kitchen staff and front-of-house staff, to ensure that everyone was working together effectively towards the common goal of launching the take-away service. I did a lot of research to ensure that the owner of the restaurant was aware of the potential risks and develop mitigation plans to address them before they become a problem.Communicated regularly with stakeholders, including senior management, to provide updates on project status and progress. I further ensured that project deliverables met quality standards and customer requirements.Established and maintained a system for project documentation and tracking the orders, and managed and led a project team to ensure that everyone is working towards the same goal. I also developed and implemented training programs for restaurant staff on the take-away process to ensure that they are equipped to handle the new service. I regularly worked under pressure, and managed multiple priorities, and drove results at a time without the technology that there is today. Show less

This sharpened my project management skills.* Assisted in the planning and implementation of projects, and further ensured that the projects were delivered on time, within budget, and to the expected quality standards. My ability to monitor and evaluate the progress of projects, and collect data to identify areas for improvement, was critical to the success of the projects and to the reports that I helped generate.* Gained experience in budget management as it was essential to ensure that all project expenses are accounted for and that expenditures are within budgetary limits. Show less The Bail Observation Project (BOP) was established in 2010 by volunteers who were concerned with the immigration bail process and the anecdotal information pointing to serious flaws in it. There was also an absence of research and a need for evidence. The BOP is based in Oxford. It has published two reports based on Immigration Bail hearings. The Project is concerned with those who are detained under immigration powers. The BOP is a national project that aims to scrutinise Immigration and Asylum Tribunals and helps those who are detained under immigration powers, including migrants and asylum seekers.Student volunteers were to build on this previous work to observe and report on the Immigration Bail hearings held at Newport, Wales. The reports have found that there are concerns surrounding these hearings in regard to access to justice, detention and the fairness of the hearings themselves. The reports have made recommendations. They also have a template for the questionnaire used for observation hearings. In this scheme, we, the students initially observed some hearings using the Project’s questionnaire. We then decided that there were specific issues that the final report would focus on. After observing and collating information, we wrote the report for the Bail Observation project. In this pro bono scheme I: * Contributed to enhancing the fairness of the legal system through the final Report on the ongoing legal and political issue.* Developed practical knowledge of the United Kingdom Immigration and asylum law in regard to detention. * Observed how the Courts/Tribunals work in practice.* Demonstrated the ability to work on my own initiative.* Developed and demonstrated good written and oral communication skills.* Collaborated with the rest of the team to collate the cohesive final project.* Demonstrated time management skills.* Broadened my legal research skills in writing the final report.
