      I spent 18 years at Reading University.       As Director of Research I played a pivotal role in establishing the research function of the Institute of Agrifood and Land Use, including designing the labs, selecting equipment and recruiting staff. I also forged close links with colleagues in the School of Medicine to promote research in Human Nutrition.Activities in the region and nationally included:• Queen’s representative on the Northern Ireland Food Foresight Panel • Queen’s representative on the Board of Management of the Programme for Research at Third Level Institutions in Food and Health • Member of the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust Doctoral Fellowship Scheme Panel Cross-Queen’s responsibilities included:• Member of the Steering Group of the Queen’s Centre for Health Improvement • Member of the Management Executive of the research council-funded Centre of Excellence in Public Health• Member of the Queen’s Gender Initiative Women’s Forum and Champion of Women in Science, Engineering and Technology Key Institute level achievements included: • Led the design and equipping of the research labs and appointment of academic staff in the Institute• Build up the contingent of PhD students from zero to fifty in 4 years• Led the Institute’s return to RAE 2008.
