      Engaged in a high impact US Department of Energy-funded Initiative to optimize biofuel production and wastewater treatment with algae. Select assignments included:Microscopy Analyst:• Collecting representative micrographs of algal samples using white light microscopy.• Conducting quantitative analysis by estimation of percent biomass contributed by algal genera and contaminants.Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Technician:• Obtaining TSS to track baseline areal productivity of algal strains.Biochemical Analyst:• Determining carbohydrate concentration and ethanol production potential of algal samples via strong-acid hydrolysis, MBTH reaction with spectrophotometry, as well as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).• Performing acid-catalyzed transesterification and hexane extraction of algal lipids to fatty acid methyl esters (FAME).• Separating 30 FAMEs via gas chromatography and computing individual FAME abundances by integrating analyte peaks.       Conducted research at the W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience to support Dr. Kelvin Kwan. Investigated the disruption of the normal development of spiral ganglion neurons and the overall inner ear due to conditional deletion of Chromodomain Helicase DNA Binding Protein 4 (Chd4) in transgenic mice.

      Conducting research at the Center for Applications in Biotechnology under the mentorship of Dr. Magdalena Maj. Investigating the effect of fatty acid composition on the gut-liver-brain axis in a juvenile Iberian pig model by designing and improving experiments involving cryosectioning and immunohistochemistry (IHC) of brain tissue. Analyzing transcriptomics data of the liver, gut, and brain for identification of significantly affected cellular pathways. Portable Gluten Sensor:Spearheaded the design project of a refined gluten detection device that can accurately measure hydrolyzed gluten protein in food – for individuals with celiac disease.
