      As a member of the Bodmer-Ocorr laboratory, I was focused on understanding and uncovering the molecular basis of heart disease using the model organism, Drosophila melanogaster. As an undergraduate student, I completed my Senior's Honors Thesis on the effects of a calcineurin-mediated transcription factor, known as Nuclear Factor of Activated T-Cells (NFAT), and its resultant impact on the adult Drosophila heart. As a master's student, I expanded these studies by conducting loss- and gain-of-function studies on NFAT and its upstream elements. My master's thesis focused on the functional and structural changes observed as a result of these studies in the Drosophila heart tube. Show less
