  Graduated on 12 May 2020, cum laudeThesis: Interpreting biomarker results in individual patients with mild cognitive impairment to estimate prognosis and optimize decision making. https://bit.ly/2Z4ymrQ My thesis was conducted in the context of the Alzheimer Biomarkers in Daily Practice (ABIDE) project, which aimed to translate available knowledge on biomarkers in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) patient into daily practice. In this thesis I constructed biomarker-based prognostic models that allow the interpretation of biomarkers in individual pre-dementia patients. I developed computer-based algorithms that support clinicians to identify patients in whom cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) measurement is most likely to contribute to a more accurate diagnosis or prognosis. In a qualitative study, I analyzed audiotaped clinician-patient consultations with regard to current clinicians' information provision about the underlying cause, prognosis and implications for long-term (care) planning in MCI. Lastly, to implement results of this thesis in the daily practice of memory clinics, I developed the ADappt tool (https://adappt.health/nl/informatie) that consists of a risk calculation module, a risk communication module, and a conversation starter to support clinicians in the process of shared decision-making regarding the diagnostic work-up. Using this mixed-methods approach in which I combined statistical models with qualitative studies, I aimed to reach optimal alignment with daily practice. Show less
