  From January 2010 through December 2017, I served as a regional director with the National Education Association in Washington, DC. I retired from the NEA on December 31, 2017.Previously, I worked as a Senior Policy Specialist in the Teacher Quality department focusing on teacher licensure. With the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act, I developed a rubric to assist teachers in determining their status as a "highly qualified" teacher under the law.In 2003, I was assigned to work with the United Teachers of Dade after their placement in receivership. I served in partnership with the AFT administrator during the term of the receivership, then served as an advisor to the newly elected leaders and staff.From 2005-2010, was a member of the National Membership Strategy Department, leading membership engagement and recruitment campaigns. In January 2010, I was named Interim Regional Director of NEA's Mid-Atlantic Regional Office. In April of 2010, the interim status was removed and I became permanent in the position. In September 2015, the Midwest region was added to my area of responsibility.The Mid-Atlantic Region supported NEA efforts in the following affiliates: Delaware, Federal, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and the UDC-Faculty Assoc.The Midwest Region supported NEA efforts in the following affiliates: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin Show less
