  Research Assistant for Accelerated Bridge Construction Program

  Helped Mahsa Farzad, a graduate research assistant at Florida International University with her project dealing with a new bridge construction system called “Simple for Dead, and Continuous for Live Load (SDCL)” under the supervision of Professor Azizinamini. This system utilizes a joint detail at the interior supports that does not become continuous until after the dead loads have been applied. It's purpose was to investigate the performance of this system in high seismic areas. My role in this project was to construct the formwork for a deck and column, assemble the steel cages, setup and perform load tests, while following strict safety procedures.Helped Azadeh Jahromi, a Ph.D. candidate with a focus on structural engineering at FIU, with her part in developing a manual dedicated to service life performance of ABC projects. Developing this document took into consideration ABC projects nationwide and includes case studies, examples, design, inspection and maintenance information. My role in this project was to construct the formwork for more than 50 concrete beams, assemble the steel cages, set up and perform load tests, while following strict safety procedures. Assisted Amir Sadeghnejad, a Ph. D candidate at FIU, with his ABC-UTC research project “Extending Application of SDCL to ABC in Seismic Regions. Phase II- Experimental.” The objective of this project was to design and test a component level specimen using SDCL for seismic connection. The reason for testing the component level specimen was to proof load the connection between the substructure and superstructure. My role in this project was to to help with the construction of the test specimen which was broken up into three parts: casting the deck to girder flanges, then casting the cap beam and finally casting the column and loading cap.   At HJ Foundation I am in charge of gathering all leads that deal with augercast piles and sheet piles in multiple regions including south and central Florida, and parts of the southeast. After gathering these leads I perform detailed takeoffs for the lead estimator. In these takeoffs I have to review several plans, mainly geotechnical reports and structural plans to get pile counts, and steel cage details. At times I prepare preliminary estimates for different general contractors in need of auger cast piles and I participate in weekly meetings discussing management philosophy, safety, and expectations.
