May 2015 - Jan 2018Programs coordinatorThe Journey is a christian non governmental organisation that invests it's time, finances and available resources to university students in Kenya to see them craft a better future for themselves. My role at the Journey involved but was not limited to: • Crafting a creative design program each semester and teaching creative design to university students who signed up for the program. This included graphic design, motion graphics, photography and videography. • Crafting engaging talks for the weekly meet ups with students. This varied from creative design to christianity and social life for their wholesome growth.• Event planning and coordination within the campuses. We organised events for students on a regular basis. I led a team that worked on covering the events and sound engineered for the events. • Fundraising for the programs we ran on campus. Worked at ensuring we found leads on financial avenues to support the programs we ran. • Organised and coordinated the Ascent leadership program for the students. This involved planning on guest speakers, ensuring the coverage of the event was timely and on brand guidelines, ensuring that the projects were done and students got a chance to be networked with available leaders in various professional fields and planning camps for the trainees. • Worked with the business wing of the Journey whose main goal was to fundraise through corporate team development and leadership training. I got the opportunity to be a facilitator and a graphic designer for the business. Creating banners, brochures, training material and any design needs for the each client the business had secured. I got the opportunity to work there as a Kenyan Culture teacher for elementary section of the school. My role included:• Crafting an interactive, creative children centred curriculum for grades 3 to 5. The program was geared towards education the children on Kenyan ways of life, the different ethnic groups and their community structures, cultures, beliefs, histories and where they are now in the present day.• Documentation of the program through photography and videography. It also included creating engaging short video documentaries from time to time for the children to better understand the concepts.• Ensuring child protection and safety while they were under our care. Monitoring each child's welfare, ensuring the materials used for the lessons were child friendly and safe.• Study trips for the children in partnership with the teaching and non teaching staff. Also designed monthly newsletters and reports for the company all the while adhering to the company brand style.3. Photography and videography of the food and the restaurant to boost the marketing efforts. Engaging with walk in clients to get them engaged in the photoshoots and videos. Covering client events. Curating the company content acquired through this process for future use. 4. Website management. Maintaining and updating the company website to communicate the current events, specials, job openings, responding to client feedback, questions and reservations. 5. Email and text marketing. Updating clients on new offers, events and selling our event spaces. All while maintaining client privacy. 6. Social media management.
