  • About me

Adjunct Associate Research Professor of Climatology at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology

  • Education

    • University of Maine

      1982 - 1986
Bachelor of Arts - BA Computer Science
    • Penn State University

      1999 - 2003
Doctor of Philosophy - PhD Geosciences

"Nonlinear Paleoclimatology: Reconstructions in West Antarctica": Artificial neural network-based tools are used to (1) objectively predict across automatic weather station data gaps to develop a complete record at key West Antarctic sites for the period 1979-93, (2) examine the climatology of this record, (3) study the regional climatology as predicted by climate models, and (4) better relate the atmosphere to the ice-core proxy record, both by direct analysis and through results of (1) – (3).

    • University of New Hampshire

      1993 - 1995
Master of Science - MS Computer Science

"Browser: A Visualization Tool for Multivariate, Multisource Nonlinear Time Series Data": Developed an object-oriented C++/Motif application for the visualization of large scientific time series. Climate scientists in the Climate Change Research Center (UNH) helped to identify and test desired features. Browser is designed to aid in the analysis and understanding of climate data and to supplement existing tools such as Matlab.

    • University of New Hampshire

      1996 - 1997
Master of Science - MS Earth Science (Geochemical Systems)

"Climate Change in Central West Antarctica Using Ice Cores": High resolution glaciochemical time series developed from four shallow ice cores are used in the reconstruction of climate in Central West Antarctica, for 1945-1995 A.D., to investigate spatial and temporal climate variability in this region. Longer term climate change is investigated through development of lower resolution, 200 year records.
