      Working in a busy semiconductor manufacturing plant, I was responsible for providing second level engineering cover for shift engineers if they were unable to provide a timely fix to return the systems to production. This typically involved meeting vendors to resolve equipment issues, prioritising production engineering support, and hands on tool repair. I am familiar with the health and safety requirements for complex tools which require toxic chemicals (in both liquid and gaseous form), high voltages (750,000 keV) and high current sources (250A).Zarlink went through many organisational changes. My rigour and flexibility ensured that systems and people continued to perform to a high standard. My responsibilities were:Management* Management and appraisal of up to twelve shift engineers, including holiday rota and shift cover; * Ensuring shift engineers were trained to a level to sustain and improve systems;* Production and maintenance of monthly budget reports for toolsets detailing departmental spend; * Fostering mutual partnerships with equipment vendors, inventory suppliers and other IC manufacturers;* Assisting the department to gain and retain site certification (TS 16949 and ISO9000) and ensuring it satisfied internal and external audit.Engineering* Planning installations/retrofits to meet production demands;* Ensuring efficient maintenance/repair of toolset, implementing long-term fixes / system improvements;* Development of Total Production Maintenance, including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Predictive Maintenance, Loss Reporting, Spares Control and Standard Operating Procedures * Providing engineering support for shift engineers;* Stock control analysis to optimise the supply chain of key tool parts;* Preparation & presentation of performance reports for management review.
