  - Shadowed numerous Clinical Social Workers in different departments within the VA that lead to experience in conducting psychosocial assessments, engaging in case management practices, participating in group therapies, observing individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) sessions, and learning about various other mental health/substance abuse treatment modalities.- Was part of a multidisciplinary team with VA Pain Clinic patients through the Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program (CPRP). This also often involves collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team Members, as well as Child Protective Services and Law Enforcement.- Addresses barriers to care by linking patients with appropriate resources for health insurance/prescription assistance programs, transportation, mental health/substance use treatment, housing/utility assistance, employment, and food. This may also include addressing safety/neglect concerns.- Conducts full psychosocial assessments with individuals and families through use of a culturally sensitive, strengths-based approach that is developed in partnership with the individual/family. This also includes conducting safety and risks assessments to improve overall wellness and care. - Engages in brief counseling with families who are experiencing grief and loss, or have difficulty coping with a new diagnosis. Also engages in motivational interviewing and problem-solving methods to support improved treatment adherence. - Has strong documentation skills and is very knowledgeable about HIPAA laws and the 21st Century Cures Act.
