Determined temporary nitrogen plant capacity, nitrogen sensor placement, nitrogen route into caves, piping, and duration of pressurization and depressurization.• Mitigated risk during start-up of a steel plant’s blast furnace. Estimated gas output quality of Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) unit; determined gas quality curve for downstream hydrogen blending; and scheduled manual sampling of gas flow, temperature, pressure, and stack fumes, ensuring poisons were not escaping.
