  The Archway Partnership empowers communities to address long-standing and critical community and economic development needs. Archway Partnership communities have addressed issues related to economic development, education, workforce development, leadership, health and welfare, overall quality of life, and more.The core function of Archway is to bring together local leaders who prioritize local needs and identify projects that benefit the community. Projects are not decided by UGA but are determined by members of a local, community-based Executive Committee with help from other members of the community who attend listening sessions or participate in various Work Groups. Archway then acts as a connection point between communities and students and faculty to work on selected projects.Some of my duties as an Archway student assistant include:-Collecting data to determine housing trends for an infographic for Hart County-Compiling an index of over 300 Archway Partnership projects for three fiscal years from 5 priority areas (Economic Development, Education Workforce and Development, Health, Leadership, and Quality of Life) in 10 Archway communities in Georgia along with project value and return on investment in collaboration with other staff-Conducting a cost-benefit analysis with a team of graduate students for potential construction of a new jail in Hart County-Communicating with the Grady County Operations Coordinator with collection, organization and digitization of asset management data for Grady County and created a template to address future need-Presenting research to the Board of Regents identifying next steps for improving the Spalding County hospital system based on results from Community Health Needs Assessment-Recognized as one of UGA’s Top 100 Student Employees in 2019 out of over 5,000 student workers (top 2%) Show less

  Statistics Senior Capstone ProjectWe worked with the UGA Department of Horticulture on research regarding internal grape temperature. Grape temperature is important to measure as it affects the outcome of the wine produced from grapes. The current standard way of producing can cost up to $1500 with all the necessary equipment, while our researchers created a way to measure that cost only $30 using a balloon, and a temperature collector called an iButton. They collected data over 4 weeks which was over 14,000 observations. We used R with this data to create visualizations in exploratory stages with the ggplot package. Our goal was to create a model that would use the balloon method to accurately predict the temperature, effectively eliminating the $1500 piece of equipment. We created a seasonal (piecewise) linear model. The "seasons" were day and night, as the presence and absence of solar radiation had an effect on the grape temperature. To determine the breakpoint hour in the piecewise model, we used the bootstrapping method on our training set (75% of our data) and tested on the test set (25% of our data) to ensure the accuracy. In the end, our created model had a mean absolute percentage error of 0.0275 (2.75%) and an R^2 value of 0.9663. This means that we model to be about 2.75% off of the actual temperature value.
