  Coordinator of cúl camp

  I was given the responsibility of managing the running of the 2014 Cúl Camp for Blackrock National Hurling Club. Blackrock is one of the most successful hurling clubs nationally as well as in Cork. I was honoured to be given this role and it proceeded without incident. My responsibilities included: hiring the staff, answering queries, organising the availability of training gear and coordinating the daily running of the camp such as timetables and organising the resources available to us.In my second year as coordinator the camp grew by 100 kids with improved advertising and promotion techniques employed such as articles in newspapers, text/email advertising and posters placed in strategic locations around the local area. I was also able to organise a visit from both 2FM (The Rick O Shea Show) who had a live broadcast from the camp itself and Kellogg's as well as visits from senior Cork hurlers. I was given the opportunity to research a broad range of topics and various data protection issues in relation to them. In this environment my main responsibilities included legal research, legal analysis and translating legal documents from German to English.

  English language assistant

  This was a Teaching Assistant position in a Berufskolleg (equivalent to a vocational school) in Dortmund, Germany. I applied to the Irish Department of Education and Skills for this year-long role. It was arranged between them and the German Pädagogischer Austauschdienst as part of an Exchange programme.My role involved assisting English classes throughout the school, and this was carried out in various ways.I assisted in classes ranging from Veterinary Assistants to Wilkommensklassen (recent arrivals in Germany) and also with all classes in the Gymnasium Oberstufe (Comprehensive/Abitur (Leaving Certificate/A-Levels equivalent). The tasks I completed over the year:- prepared students in Year 12 for their oral English exams,- provided my opinion and feedback in those exams - small group work with the Year 11s on current affairs topics such as TTIP, Brexit and the American Presidential Election - prepared project work for the Year 13s, which involved the students preparing Business plans in a Dragons' Den style setting- general assistance (grammar, sentence structure and vocabulary) for students in the Wilkommensklassen and other classes- researched and prepared presentations on aspects of Irish and British culture, history, current affairs, including Northern Ireland, Brexit, Irish culture, Irish music & sports, Irish language, British and Irish health systems and many other topics.I was given an overall "A" rating by the school with the statement "Oisín was very popular with the pupils of the school as well as the staff. With his authentic and pleasant manner he managed to awaken in many pupils an interest in the history and culture of Ireland."   Private tutoring

  For two years I provided private tutoring for Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate students. I primarily taught German but I also had students in Leaving Certificate history. This job has involved researching different language areas (and historical areas) and presenting them in an interesting manner suitable for the individual learner. I provided detailed lessons in oral language as well as written language in German. I enjoy one-to-one teaching as it is clear to see when a student is improving and one can also base lessons around the interests of the students. The students I have tutored experienced improved results but they were alsobeen exposed to real German - in the form of books, music, comics, magazines etc. which has made the language and country real to them - while in history I provided students with suitable background information to further contextualize what they learned in their school history books.
