At Midwest City High School my role as special education teacher allowed me to teach Algebra I in a direct instruction setting. Direct instruction teaching allows a special education teacher to instruct a smaller group of students compared to their nondisabled peers. This allowed me to teach at the level that was appropriate for the students and also offer differentiated instruction for algebraic concepts.
