      Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, A Community Risk Reduction Officer (CRRO) independently performs many community risk reduction (CRR) tasks and other duties as needed. Some responsibilities include working with City departments, other governmental jurisdictions, business and private entities, and volunteer organizations to develop and implement CRR programs for the whole community. Analyzes data and conducts research to identify and prioritize the risk present within the community and create a plan or activities to reduce the risk to the community. Liaises with community partners to build relationships and connect to the fire prevention division. After analyzing the effectiveness of programs or activities, prepare reports and update the community risk reduction plan yearly. Makes recommendations to the Fire Marshal after analyzing which projects or activities should be conducted in the future. The CRRO will manage the high-hazard occupancies, including facilities that are classified as Hazardous Material Sites (302), ensure compliance with state and federal right-to-know laws, care facilities, chemical processing plants, and facilities with unique processes such as spraying or dipping processes; and high-piled storage. An employee in this class performs technical inspections of buildings and facilities of high-hazard occupancies, as needed. Delivers safety programs on topics such as fire safety, housekeeping, sprinkler systems, and smoke detectors; researches, analyzes, and reports on issues related to prevention and CRR programs; understands department goals and policies. This position is also responsible for performing related duties as required/assigned. In the absence of the Fire Marshall, the CRRO will direct all functions of the Fire Prevention Division.
