    • The Echo

      Feb 2013 - Aug 2019

Before the 2016 Irish general election I moved exclusively into reporting on Irish politics, providing both news and opinion pieces. In this role, I was responsible for providing comprehensive political coverage for Ireland's second city and largest county in one of the only daily local newspapers in Ireland.During this time I regularly interviewed key figures in Irish politics like the Tánaiste (deputy prime minister), leaders of the main political parties, ambassadors to Ireland, and local politicians and activists.I also used my background in political science to provide in-depth analysis into ongoing trends of Irish politics, producing opinion and analysis features backed up by hard data, as well as a weekly political column.I was The Echo's lead political reporter during the 2018 Presidential election and the 2019 local and European elections, as well as several referendums. Show less I provided in-depth local news coverage for Cork city and county for one of Ireland's leading local newspapers.During this time, I built up an extensive network across different communities in Cork allowing me to get as close to the stories as possible so I could deliver the local news that people deserved.I began to specialise in politics during this time, becoming a County Council reporter and covering the 2014 local and European elections and the 2015 same-sex marriage referendum.
