      I left school and worked on the Heavy lifting gangs within the Swindon Railway works, I also acquired my forklift truck balance and reach truck licences, also crane driver/mobile crane driver and slinger certificates for heavy lifting , after a period of 2 years I was then moved into the Blacksmiths Shop (13 shop) where I worked as a Blacksmith's assistant (Striker) woking under the Blacksmith's instructions and also helped out with various stores and driving duties until the railway works closed down in 1986.
