Primary Investigator: Joaquin Espinosa Project: Investigate the functional specialization of the Mediator paralog pairs MED13/MED13L in the hypoxia and serum response network. I performed Chromatin immunoprecipitation to analyze the differential recruitment of MED13/MED13L to promoters of target genes in the specific response network. Primary Investigator: Joaquin EspinosaProject: Investigating the role of the paralog pairs MED13/MED13L of the transcriptional Mediator Complex in the induction of HIF1A target genes during hypoxia.

    • University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

      Aug 2015 - Jun 2021

Thesis Mentor: Dr. Raphael Nemenoff Thesis Project: To determine the role of NSCLC cell-specific MHCII expression in tumor progression and the response to PD-1/PD-L1 blockade. Using an immunocompetent orthotopic mouse model we are able to manipulate the cancer cells or the tumor microenvironment to investigate the interactions between cancer cells and immune cells.

Post-doctoral trainee on the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension T32 Training Grant NIH, NIDDK Sep 2020 Polycystic Kidney Disease has many parallels to cancer biology and I can offer my training in cancer biology and immunology to investigate the cystic microenvironment in PKD. My project investigates the immunosuppressive cystic microenvironment and how it contributes to disease progression.

Trainee in Translational Research of Lung, Head, and Neck Cancer NIH NRSA T32 Mar 2016 I was appointed a trainee on the NIH NRSA T32CA174648-01, “Training in Translational Research of Lung, Head and Neck Cancer” to perform research in the lab of Raphael Nemenoff. My project is to investigate the effect of MHCII cancer cell expression in NSCLC.
    • Awarded to Amber Johnson, PhD
Magna cum Laude in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology University of Colorado Boulder Dec 2013 I received Magna cum Laude in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental biology for my honor's thesis in Joaquin Espinosa's lab studying the role of MED13/MED13L in the Induction of HIF-1a target Genes.
    • Awarded to Amber Johnson, PhD
Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Grant Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program May 2013 I received an UROP grant for my research in Dr. Joaquin Espinosa's lab during the summer of 2013. My project was to investigate the effect of MED23 on the induction of HIF-1A target genes.
