  • Experience

    • Sheffield Star

      Apr 2014 - Jun 2016

Voluntary one day a week placement on newsdesk, where I contribute to daily news agenda and bring my own ideas. I have had a by-lined front page splash and numerous page leads. I worked on a double page spread published in the Sheffield Star on a monthly basis. I wrote the stories as well as laying them out. I was the only non-native English speaker with an editorial position and had several front page stories, such as breaking the national news students had occupied Nick Clegg’s office. My interview with a student who used to be homeless was shortlisted for the Student Publication Awards.

      Work Placement

I shadowed reporters and helped them out researching stories. For example, I had to speak with the police press office a few times and call many restaurants in Manchester to ask for their service charges. The placement was a great opportunity to work outside Sheffield, my comfort zone, and learn from very experienced journalists.
